A little bit about the energizer bunny

Sophie is the first dog I have owned on my own. She is a 3 year old Labrador Retriever mix. My guess is that she is a lab and shepherd mix. She has some very shepherd like qualities in addition to her lab qualities.

To say she is a handful is putting it mildly!

Here she is at a little under a year. She looks calm huh? It is a trick! She had no off switch until she was close to two years old. She was never tired and had an immense amount of energy and drive. To say I was unprepared for her energy is an understatement.

When you have a lab mix who does not have an off switch, you find avenues to get that energy out to keep your sanity. In the process you fall in love with dog sports/training and join more and more clubs/classes. It is a vicious cycle ;-)

What we are currently up to:

We are currently involved in flyball and actively compete with a wonderful team. Sophie has earned her Flyball Dog Champion Silver through NAFA and her Top Flight Level I through UFLI.

We are also training in Agility. Sophie loves the jumps, weaves and tunnel. If we can get her over her fear of the teeter, we may have a competitive agility dog!

In addition to those dog sports, we take obedience classes and will hopefully compete in Rally.

See this is why a lot of my friends consider me the “crazy dog person”.
