One of my goals for this year is to complete the Couch to 5K program. My younger sister is in town visiting and is also working on the program. We decided to go for a workout yesterday and I decided to bring Sophie along.

I know Sophie is much faster than I am but she is usually content to walk quickly next to me as I try to run.

Not so much yesterday. She was doing a great job of walking briskly and leaving slack on her leash. Well at one point she got tired of our slow pace, turned her head and grabbed her leash in the middle. Then proceed to start to run and try to pull me along. There was no jumping like she used to do as a puppy when she wanted to play. It was a grab and pull as if to say "OMG hurry up already!"

My sister was a few feet ahead and we caught up to her with Sophie's technique. My sister and those around us were very entertained. I couldn't stop laughing. She finally slowed down when we caught up to my sister. Then she went back to a brisk walk.

  1. Lol, that gives a great mental picture!

When I did Couch to 10K last year, I ran most of the time with the dogs on my waist harness. When I ran without them for the first time, I realized just how much extra power they were providing for me, it was so much harder to run alone!

  3. this made me laugh, because i've been saying ever since i got desmond that we're going to do the couch to 5K together. the farthest i got was downloading the app :-)

the challenge, as far as i can see, is that desmond isn't going to be down with the set plan of walk/run. the dude wants to and needs to stop to sniff and mark and stare and whatnot. i'm not quite sure how it would work. the waist harness is an interesting idea, but if desmond sees a dog, i'm going down! lol
